The PADI Delayed Surface Marker Buoy Specialty teaches the knowledge and techniques required to use marker buoys and delayed surface marker buoys safely.
Across two lake dives, practise reels and launch methods from negative and neutrally buoyant positions—skills that become vital around drift dives and boat traffic.
Course Details
- Minimum age: 12 years
- Prerequisite: Open Water Diver
- Duration: 1 day and 2 dives
- No eLearning required
- Meet: Surrey Hills Dive Lake at 10:00 midweek or 09:00 at weekends; open-water training until 15:00
- Location: Surrey Hills Dive Lake, on Surrey Hills lake days (Thursday to Sunday)
- Perform underwater reel deployment
- Complete safety stops with reels deployed
- Explore the dive site

Important Information
- Lake entrance: £20
- Air fills: 1 required; one fill per lake day is included, and extra fills are £8 cash each, paid at the lake
- Bring food and drinks or money to purchase them
- Bring your logbook, towel and a timing device rated to 18 metres
- LSD does not provide transport to the open-water site; car sharing will be sought but cannot be guaranteed
- A Scuba Review (£135) is required if you have not dived within 12 months — get £20 off when booked at the same time as your course with code SR20
- Winter (November to April): the PADI Dry Suit Diver specialty is required. If you need a suit, dry suit hire is £40 for the course, added at checkout
