The PADI Advanced Open Water Diver course is designed to enhance your diving skills in a number of specialty areas whilst gaining supervised experience. It consists of five open water dives, including deep and navigation.
Upon completion you will be qualified to dive to 30 metres in conditions similar to or better than those you were trained in.
For the academic work, we register you for the online Advanced Open Water Diver eLearning. Complete the sections relevant to your dives before the course and bring your e-record with you.
Course Details
- Minimum age: 12 years during summer / 15 years during winter
- Prerequisite: Open Water Diver
- Duration: 2 days and 5 dives
- Runs once a month mid-week (Thursday–Friday) and once a month at weekends (Saturday–Sunday)
- Online eLearning: approximately 5 hours
- Day 1: meet at Vobster Quay at 10:00 midweek or 09:00 on Saturdays
- Day 1 dives: Peak Performance Buoyancy or Dry Suit, Underwater Navigation and Wreck
- Day 2: Meet at Surrey Hills Dive Lake at 10:00 midweek or 09:00 at weekends
- Day 2 dives: Deep and Rescue, with exploration of the dive site

Important Information
- Lake entry: Surrey Hills £20; Vobster Quay £26 (£19.50 for Vobster members); see vobster.com
- Air fills: 3 required in total; one fill per lake day is included, and extra fills are £8 cash each, paid at the lake
- Bring a packed lunch, snacks and water, or money for food on-site
- LSD does not provide transport to the open-water sites. Car sharing can often be arranged between students but cannot be guaranteed
- A Scuba Review (£135) is required if you have not dived within 12 months — get £20 off when booked at the same time as your course with code SR20
- Winter (November to April): a dry suit orientation at the lake and the Dry Suit adventure dive are built into the course. Dry suit hire is £40 for the course, added at checkout

Day 1 — Vobster Quay
Vobster Quay is a purpose-built inland diving venue in Somerset, approximately 5 miles from Frome and 4 miles from Radstock. It is well suited to deeper dives and underwater attractions used for navigation and wreck-style adventure dives.
Day 2 — Surrey Hills Dive Lake
Surrey Hills Diving is based at Tapwood Lake near Reigate, a former flooded silica sand quarry with clear water, good visibility and depths suitable for diver training and progression.
