Recreational Divers Medical (Fit-to-Dive Medical)
If you are enrolling in a PADI course and have answered “Yes” to any medical question on the Diver Medical Participant Questionnaire, you must obtain medical clearance before participating in any in-water activities.

HSE Dive Medicals – For Professional Divers
If you are being paid to dive—whether as a Divemaster, Instructor, media diver, or scientific diver—you will need an HSE Dive Medical.
🔹 What’s Included?
✔️ Full medical history review (including dive-related illnesses)
✔️ Biometric measurements (BMI, cardiovascular, neurological, respiratory, ENT, vision, and mobility tests)
✔️ Lung function & urinalysis tests
✔️ Fitness test (VO2 Max)
💡 Fitness Standard:
The HSE has a high fitness requirement. If you cannot comfortably run 5K, you may not pass the physical exam.
📌 Additional Requirement for First-Time HSE Medicals
✔️ Complete the HSE “Medical Questionnaire for Diving at Work” (Download here)
✔️ Must be countersigned by your GP before attending the medical exam
📌 Second or Subsequent HSE Medicals
✔️ You do not need to complete the questionnaire if your previous HSE medical is still in date
