London School of Diving is proud to be the only dive centre in London with an on-site HSE-approved dive doctor. Dr. Alan Kohn, a specialist in hyperbaric and dive medicine, provides both Fit-to-Dive Medicals for recreational divers and HSE Dive Medicals for professionals.
Please note: London School of Diving does not arrange medical appointments. All bookings must be made via Dr. Kohn’s website.
Recreational Divers Medical (Fit-to-Dive Medical)
- If you are enrolling in a PADI course and have answered "Yes" to any medical question on the Diver Medical Participant Questionnaire, you must obtain medical clearance before participating in any in-water activities.
- Who needs this? Anyone who has answered "Yes" on the PADI medical form (Download here)
- What’s included? Face-to-face general medical examination, lung function testing, and a review of any medical conditions & medications
- Valid for: 1 year
HSE Dive Medicals – For Professional Divers
- If you are being paid to dive, whether as a Divemaster, Instructor, media diver, or scientific diver, you will need an HSE Dive Medical.
- What’s included? Full medical history review (including dive-related illnesses); biometric measurements (BMI, cardiovascular, neurological, respiratory, ENT, vision, and mobility tests); lung function & urinalysis tests; and a fitness test (VO2 Max)
- Fitness standard: The HSE has a high fitness requirement. If you cannot comfortably run 5K, you may not pass the physical exam.
- First-time HSE medicals: complete the HSE "Medical Questionnaire for Diving at Work" (Download here). It must be countersigned by your GP before attending the medical exam.
- Second or subsequent HSE medicals: you do not need to complete the questionnaire if your previous HSE medical is still in date.
