Discover new adventures

The PADI Advanced Open Water course is designed to enhance your diving skills in a number of specialty areas whilst gaining supervised experience. It consists of five open water dives in specialist diving areas including deep and navigation. Upon completion you will be qualified to dive to 30 meters in conditions similar to or better than those you were trained in.

For the academic work we register you for the online Advanced eLearning. You will need to read and complete the sections relevant to the dives you are taking. Please make sure this is completed before your dives and you bring with you your e-record.

Day 1 begins at London School of Diving at 06:30 before travelling to Vobster Quay, where you will normally complete Peak Performance Buoyancy (or Drysuit if selected), Navigation and Wreck adventure dives. Day 2 meets directly at Surrey Hills Dive Lake at 09:30, where you will normally complete Deep and Rescue. During winter you have the option to add a Drysuit Orientation to your booking; this replaces Peak Performance Buoyancy and helps prepare you for colder open water conditions.

Dives

Day 1: Peak Performance Buoyancy or Drysuit, Navigation and Wreck
Day 2: Deep and Rescue

Drysuit replaces Peak Performance Buoyancy when selected or required in low season.

Lake Locations

The Advanced Open Water course currently uses two open water training sites across the two course days. Day 1 starts at London School of Diving before travelling to Vobster Quay, and Day 2 meets directly at Surrey Hills Dive Lake. Exact arrangements will always be confirmed in your booking email.

Day 1 – Vobster Quay
Vobster Quay is a purpose-built inland diving venue in Somerset, approximately 5 miles from Frome and 4 miles from Radstock. It is well suited to Advanced Open Water training, including deeper dives and underwater attractions used for navigation and wreck-style adventure dives.

Day 2 – Surrey Hills Dive Lake
Surrey Hills Diving is based at Tapwood Lake, a large inland scuba diving venue near Reigate. The lake is a former flooded silica sand quarry with clear water, good visibility and depths suitable for diver training and progression.
