Farne Islands 6 - 7 October 2018
The Farne Islands are a popular scuba diving location, with a variety of sites suitable for all levels of diver. The islands appeal to divers for the seals and wrecks. The grey seal colony at the Farnes numbers about 5,000 with several hundred pups born every year in September–November. They are curious and will often look in on divers in the water and are impressive to watch underwater.
Hundreds of ships have been wrecked on the Farnes over the years, providing plenty for wreck divers to look at.
The most probable dive sites for this trip will be around Blue Caps, Cove Car or Lt. Harcar as the seals love hanging out there. Even though diving with seals is mostly at shallow depths it would be good for participants to have some prior UK experience as the palyful seals can be somewhat of a distraction!
Farne Island Boat Trips have a fleet of 8 boats that operate out of Seahouses harbour, two of which are used for diving purposes with dive-lifts fitted for easy access from the water.
The family run business have been operating out of Seahouses for over 60 years and operate 8 boats around the islands. All 7 hard bottom boats have lifts attached and the rib has a ladder to make exiting the water easier.
As the family is still active in local fishing they know all about the local wildlife and where to find it!
